About

Research, not guesswork.

VanLifeKitchens helps people choose kitchen gear for a specific, awkward constraint: a small space with limited power and no room for a mistake. We do that by reading specifications carefully and studying what large numbers of actual owners report over time. We are upfront about what that method can and cannot tell you.

Cooking dinner in a van kitchen at golden hour

Our mission

Help people cook real food on the road with gear that actually works. No hype, no sponsored rankings, and no “best of” lists stuffed with whatever Amazon is paying to promote this week.

How we research

VanLifeKitchens is a research-led publication covering kitchen gear for van, RV, and vehicle-based living. We compare published specifications, manufacturer documentation, and the patterns that show up across large numbers of owner reviews, then turn that into selection guidance for a specific constraint: a small space with limited power.

  • We read manufacturer specifications and documentation in full, including power draw figures, dimensions, and material specs.
  • We aggregate publicly available owner reviews across retailers and forums, looking for failure patterns that repeat across many reports rather than isolated complaints.
  • We cross-reference independent published test data where it exists, and cite it.
  • We compare products against each other on the criteria that matter in a van: power consumption, physical footprint, durability on rough roads, and whether it works without shore power.
  • We update pages when specifications change, products are discontinued, or the pattern in owner reports shifts.

What we don't do

Plenty of sites imply hands-on testing they never did. We would rather tell you exactly where our information comes from, so you can weigh it yourself.

  • We do not perform hands-on testing. We have not personally used most of the products on this site.
  • We do not measure power draw, boil times, noise levels, or temperature performance ourselves. Any figure on this site comes from a manufacturer or a cited third party.
  • We do not accept samples in exchange for coverage.
  • Where owner reports conflict or data is thin, we say so rather than inventing a verdict.

If you want measured performance figures from a lab, we will point you to the people who produce them. What we offer instead is the comparison and selection work: which of these twelve fridges fits your battery bank, and what owners consistently report going wrong after a year.

Who writes this

Everything on this site is published under a single byline — VanLifeKitchens Editorial. We do not attribute articles to individual named reviewers, because the work is research and compilation rather than personal field experience.
