Con-Tact Grip Premium Shelf Liner Review: Cutting Rattle in Van Drawers and Cabinets
Every van kitchen makes noise on the road. Plates click, pans grind on plywood, a jar slides across a shelf and hits the cabinet wall at every corner. Most of that noise comes from hard things moving on hard surfaces, and the cheapest first fix is a grippy, cushioned liner. Our storage guide recommends non-slip liner in every drawer and cabinet. This page covers one specific liner, so the recommendation has a real product behind it.
The Con-Tact Brand Grip Premium is a non-adhesive shelf and drawer liner made by Kittrich under the Con-Tact brand. The listing we link to is the 18-inch x 10-foot roll in Bright White, Con-Tact SKU 10F-C6Y52-15.
This review is research-based. VanLifeKitchens doesn't test products hands-on. What follows comes from Con-Tact's product page, the Amazon listing, and what owners commonly report about grip liners in vans and RVs.
Choose this if:
- Your drawers and cabinets rattle, or dishes and pans slide around on bare wood or laminate.
- You want something removable that won't leave adhesive on plywood or veneer.
- You're lining several drawers and a cabinet or two, and want one roll that does it all.
Skip this if:
- You're hoping it will hold heavy items in place in a hard stop. It won't; see "What a liner can't do".
- You need a liner rated for food contact or heat. Con-Tact makes neither claim for this product.
- You want a hard, wipe-clean surface. An open-weave liner traps crumbs.
What it is
Con-Tact describes Grip Premium as "a repositionable, non-slip liner made from durable foamed PVC" with an "open scrim design" that "allows for ventilation". It's non-adhesive: you lay it in place, and the grip on both faces does the work. It cuts to size with ordinary scissors.
The open scrim is a woven mesh coated in cushioned foam, so the liner has small holes right through it. That matters in a van for two reasons:
- Air gets through. A solid liner over plywood can trap condensation, and damp is a constant fight in a van. A mesh liner lets the surface underneath breathe.
- Grip on both sides. The textured foam grips the drawer bottom and the items on top, which is what stops things sliding.

An 18-inch width covers the full depth of most van galley drawers in one piece, and a 10-foot roll gives you about 15 square feet. That's enough for several drawers and a cabinet floor, with offcuts left over for jar pads and the bottom of a crate.
What it does well in a van
Stops low-force sliding. Plates, bowls, pots and boxed food on a bare drawer bottom slide with every turn and brake. A grippy liner raises the friction, so those everyday small movements mostly stop. That's where most rattle comes from.
Quietens contact noise. Even when items don't slide, hard-on-hard contact vibrates and clicks. A cushioned layer between the item and the drawer bottom damps that contact, which is why liner is such a common first step in van and RV builds.
Protects surfaces. Cast iron and stainless scratch wood and laminate. A liner takes the wear, and Con-Tact's page says it "protects surfaces from damage or scratches".
Comes out clean. Since it's non-adhesive, you can lift it out to wash it, replace it, or reconfigure the drawer, with no residue on the plywood. In a build you'll change over the years, that beats stick-down liner.
What a liner can't do
This is the part that matters for safety. A liner works by friction. Friction holds an object as long as the force trying to move it is small. In ordinary driving, those forces are small. In a hard stop, a swerve or a crash, they're many times larger, and no liner will hold a heavy object in place.
So in a van:
- Liner is not a restraint. Anything heavy, such as a full water jug, cast iron or a Dutch oven, needs a physical restraint: a latched door, a front lip, a fixed bracket or a strap. See our storage guide for the "every container has a fixed location" rule.
- Liner doesn't keep doors shut. Drawers and cabinet doors need positive latches. A liner inside a drawer does nothing to stop the drawer from opening in a corner.
- Liner doesn't make glass safe. Glass jars on a liner slide less, but they can still tip or hit each other on rough roads. Keep glass to a minimum in cabinets.
Think of it as the layer that stops small movements and noise, inside a cabinet that is itself latched, with heavy items restrained separately. To find which drawer or cabinet the noise is actually coming from, and what to fix after liner, see the guide to stopping van kitchen rattles.
Material and food contact
Con-Tact's page doesn't make a food-contact claim for Grip Premium, and it doesn't give a heat rating. Accordingly:
- Don't use it as a food surface. Put food on plates, boards or in containers that sit on the liner, not directly on the PVC.
- Keep it away from heat. Don't line the shelf directly beside or under a stove, and don't set hot pans down on it. Foamed PVC isn't meant for that. Use a trivet.
- Fridge baskets. A piece in the bottom of a 12V fridge basket reduces rattle, but it's PVC in contact with condensation and wrapped food. Some owners do it; we'd only use it under sealed containers.
Cutting and fitting
- Measure each drawer inside the box, not the front panel. Cut the liner a little undersize so it lies flat without curling up the sides.
- Cut along the scrim with sharp scissors to keep edges neat.
- Use one piece per drawer. Joins in the middle of a drawer are where items catch.
- Double up under heavy pans if they still grind. Two layers cushion better, but the real fix for a heavy pan is a fixed slot or a strap.
- Line the bottom of bins too. A piece in the base of a storage bin such as one of the IRIS USA Weathertight 19-Qt bins stops contents sliding inside the bin.
- Put it under jugs. A pad under a water jug like the Scepter 05177 cuts noise, as long as the jug is also strapped or boxed in.
Cleaning and moisture
An open-weave liner traps crumbs, coffee grounds and spills. Lift it out periodically, shake it outside, wash it in soapy water and let it dry fully before putting it back. A liner left wet in a closed drawer is a mould risk. The open weave helps air get through, but a damp liner is still damp.
The Bright White colour shows dirt quickly, which can be a feature: you'll know when it needs washing. Darker colours hide stains if that bothers you. Con-Tact sells Grip Premium in several colours.
Durability
Foam liners wear. The common owner complaints about grip liners in general are edges that fray where items are dragged over them, compression where heavy pans sit, and loss of grip as the surface gets dirty. Washing restores much of the grip. When a piece wears through, cut a new one from the roll. That's an advantage of buying a 10-foot roll over a pre-cut pack.
Alternatives
- Pre-cut liner packs. Neater for standard home drawers, less useful for odd van drawer sizes.
- A smaller Grip Premium roll. Con-Tact also sells 12-inch x 4-foot and 20-inch x 4-foot rolls, which suit a van with one or two drawers.
- Fixed dividers and slots. For flat items like cutting boards and sheet pans, our storage guide recommends a vertical slot organiser. Slots hold things in place; a liner only reduces sliding.
- Straps and lips. For anything heavy, these are the actual restraint, and a liner works alongside them.
Which guides it fits
- Storage complete guide: "Put non-slip shelf liner in every drawer and cabinet" and the utensil-drawer advice to put liner under the organiser tray.
- Van kitchen layouts: plan drawer depth and contents so liner and restraint work together.
- DIY van sink setup: a pad under the fresh and grey jugs.
Verdict
The Con-Tact Grip Premium 18-inch x 10-foot roll is a straightforward, removable way to quieten a van kitchen and stop everyday sliding in drawers and cabinets. The foamed PVC with an open scrim grips on both sides and lets air through, and it cuts to fit odd van drawer sizes. It isn't a restraint, isn't sold as a food surface, and doesn't have a heat rating, so use it inside latched cabinets, under containers rather than food, and away from the stove. Within those limits it's an easy first change for a quieter van.
FAQ
What is Con-Tact Grip Premium made of? Con-Tact describes it as durable foamed PVC with an open scrim design. It's non-adhesive and repositionable.
What size is this listing? 18 inches wide by 10 feet long, Bright White, Con-Tact SKU 10F-C6Y52-15. Con-Tact also sells 12-inch x 4-foot and 20-inch x 4-foot rolls.
Will a shelf liner keep things from flying around in a crash? No. A liner adds friction, which stops small movements and rattle in normal driving. In a hard stop or crash the forces are far larger. Heavy items need latched doors, lips, brackets or straps.
Is it safe to put food directly on it? Con-Tact doesn't make a food-contact claim for this liner. Put food in containers or on plates that sit on the liner.
Can I use it near the stove? Con-Tact doesn't publish a heat rating. Keep it away from burners and hot pans, and use a trivet.
Does it leave residue? It's non-adhesive, so it lifts out without residue. That makes it easy to wash or replace.
Will it trap moisture in my drawers? The open scrim lets air through, which helps. A wet liner in a closed drawer can still hold damp, so dry it fully after cleaning or spills.
