Stanley Wildfare Pro 15-Piece Fry Pan Cookset Review: A Light Induction Kit for Two

The Magma Nesting 10-Piece is the induction set this site recommends for cooks who make multi-pot meals every night. At 13 lb, it's also heavy. The Stanley Wildfare Pro 15-Piece Fry Pan Cookset sits at the other end. It's a 3.74 lb cook-and-eat kit for two, built around one tri-ply stainless fry pan that Stanley lists as induction compatible, with plates, cutlery, a cutting board and a spatula nested inside. It doesn't replace a full set. It's for small vans, weekend trips and one-pan cooks who want something that works on a portable induction hob and packs into a space barely 2 inches tall.

What the Amazon link sells: the STANLEY Wildfare Pro 15-Piece Stainless Steel Fry Pan Cook Set, 8.75 in Fry Pan with Fold & Lock Handle, Stanley SKU 100000103579 (part 10-12136-002), in the Pale Pebble + Stone colourway. Stanley sells several other Wildfare sets, including a Wildfare Pro 5-piece saucepan set, a 5-piece square pan set and the lower-tier Wildfare Core and Go lines. Those are different products. The figures here are for the 15-piece fry pan set.

This review is research-based. VanLifeKitchens doesn't test products hands-on. The specs come from Stanley's product page and the Amazon listing we link to.

Choose this if:

  • You cook mostly one-pan meals for one or two people on a portable induction hob.
  • Weight and drawer height matter more than having several pots.
  • You want plates and cutlery that nest with the pan, so the whole meal kit is one bundle.

Skip this if:

  • You cook pasta, rice or soup most nights. You'll need a pot as well. See the options below.
  • You cook for three or more. One 8.75-inch pan is small for that.
  • You want to use it over a campfire or in an oven. Stanley's page doesn't list either.

What's in the set

From Stanley's product page and the Amazon listing:

  • 8.75 in (22.2 cm) tri-ply stainless steel fry pan, 1.1 qt (1 L), with a fold-and-lock handle.
  • Stainless steel lid with vent and strain holes, so it doubles as a strainer.
  • Two 8-inch stainless steel plates. The Amazon listing describes them as powder-coated.
  • Two stainless steel cutlery sets with carry clips.
  • Nonslip cutting board with a removable silicone trivet.
  • Stainless steel folding spatula.

Stanley says "everything nests together" and gives the nested size as 8.74 x 8.74 x 2.08 inches and the weight as 3.74 lb.

Why tri-ply matters for induction

Most stainless camp cookware is 18/8 stainless, and 18/8 on its own is typically non-magnetic or only weakly magnetic. That's why the GSI Glacier Stainless Camper isn't listed for induction, as our nesting cookware for induction guide explains. A stainless pan works on induction only when its maker adds a magnetic layer.

Stanley lists the Wildfare Pro fry pan as tri-ply bonded stainless and induction compatible. Stanley doesn't publish which grade of steel each layer uses on the page we opened. A tri-ply induction pan normally has a magnetic stainless outer layer, an aluminium core for heat spread and a food-grade inner layer. We can't confirm the layer details from Stanley's text, so we rely on Stanley's induction statement. A quick magnet test on the base when it arrives confirms it for your own hob.

Tri-ply also helps on gas. The aluminium core spreads heat from a small burner flame across the base, so there are fewer hot spots than in a single-layer steel pan.

Fit on a portable induction hob

The two induction hobs this site reviews publish different pan-size rules:

  • The Duxtop 9100MC needs a flat magnetic base at least 5 inches across.
  • The NUWAVE PIC Gold accepts a 3-inch minimum and recommends no more than 10 inches.

The Wildfare Pro pan is 8.75 inches across the top. Stanley doesn't publish the base diameter. Measure the flat part of the base with a ruler before relying on it with the Duxtop, though an 8.75-inch pan would need an unusually small base to fall below the 5-inch minimum.

How it fits a van kitchen

Drawer height. At 2.08 inches nested, the kit fits in shallow drawers and under-seat spaces that won't take a pot. That's the main reason to choose it over the Magma, which nests to 7.25 inches tall.

Weight. 3.74 lb for the whole kit, including plates and cutlery, against 13 lb for the Magma 10-piece's cookware alone. For small vans close to their payload, or anyone who moves the kitchen between vehicle and campsite, that's a real difference.

One pan, not a set. The trade is that you get one 1.1-quart fry pan. It's fine for eggs, stir-fries, a quesadilla, a small steak or sautéed vegetables for two. It isn't a pot for pasta or soup. If you want one pot to go with it, the Sea to Summit Detour 3L is listed for induction and collapses to about 2.5 inches tall. Stanley also sells a Wildfare Pro saucepan set separately, which we haven't reviewed.

Lid as strainer. The vented lid lets you drain a small batch of pasta or blanched vegetables without carrying a colander.

Cleaning. Bare stainless has no coating to protect, so you can scrub it hard. Stanley lists it as dishwasher safe, which matters only if you're parked somewhere with a dishwasher. With limited water, a scraper, a little hot water and a non-scratch pad handle most jobs. Burnt-on food may need a short soak. See the van kitchen dishwashing system guide.

Handle. The fold-and-lock handle is fixed to the pan, so the pan isn't fully handle-free like the Magma or T-fal Ingenio sets. Folded, it lets the pan nest at 2.08 inches.

Heat sources and safety

Stanley's page we opened says "induction compatible" and describes the set for campsite, cabin or RV use. It doesn't list an oven rating or a campfire rating, so we don't recommend either.

If you use it on a butane or propane camp stove, that stove belongs outdoors. Their makers typically label them for outdoor use or well-ventilated areas, and some, such as the Gas One GS-1000G, say outdoor use only. A CO alarm is a last-line warning device. It doesn't make an outdoor-only stove safe to run inside. Induction indoors avoids combustion gases but still produces steam, grease and smoke, which need a roof fan or open window. Our van kitchen ventilation guide explains the difference.

Limitations

  • One small pan. 8.75 inches and 1.1 quarts. No pot.
  • No oven or campfire rating on Stanley's page.
  • Layer details not published. We rely on Stanley's induction statement.
  • Fixed folding handle. The pan isn't handle-free.
  • Plates and cutlery take nest space you might rather use for food or another pan.

Weights and sizes come from each maker as cited in the linked reviews. The Magma and T-fal are full cookware sets. The Stanley is a one-pan meal kit, and the Detour is a single pot. A Stanley plus a Detour gives a light, induction-listed pan-and-pot pair that packs into much less height than either full set.

Verdict

The Stanley Wildfare Pro 15-Piece Fry Pan Cookset is the lightest induction-listed nesting kit in this catalog, and it fills a gap the nesting cookware for induction guide flagged: the only induction-listed nesting set here was the 13 lb Magma. Stanley publishes the key figures: a tri-ply 18/8 stainless pan, induction compatibility, 3.74 lb and a nest only 2.08 inches tall, with plates and cutlery for two inside. It's one small pan with no pot, oven or campfire rating, so it's for small vans, short trips and one-pan cooks. Add a pot like the Detour and it covers most simple meals for two.

T-fal Ingenio Expertise 10-Piece Nonstick Cookware Set with Detachable Handles, Induction, Black (L242SA74)

Aluminium pans with T-fal's Platinum PTFE nonstick coating and an induction base, plus two detachable handles. Remove the handles and the pans stack. T-fal lists the set at 11.07 lb and 13.0 x 13.0 x 7.1 in stacked. You get 8.5 and 11-inch fry pans, a 3 qt saucepan and a 3.5 qt sauté pan, each with a glass lid and a plastic storage lid. It's the easy-release, low-water-cleanup option, but the coating wears and needs gentle utensils.
